Revival
2005

Saturday 17th September was the 76th birthday of Sir Stirling Moss. After signings of his new 'Scrapbook 1955' that morning, he celebrated by racing a Lotus Cortina that afternoon, followed the next day with a Ferrari 250 GT in the RAC TT.

I managed to 'inveigle' myself into the Paddock on the Friday which was the official practice day. Here you can see the 'D-Type' stable, full of remarkable cars including the famous 774 RW Le Mans car. This 1955 'long nose' 'D-Type' has been driven by such notables as Mike Hawthorn, Win Percy and Ivor Bueb. On this day it was driven by Johnny Herbert. The 1956 Ecurie Ecosse 'D-Type' above, number 17 was driven on the day by Graeme Dodd. The green 1954 'D-Type' on the right, driven by Lukas Huni. A truly amazing collection of classic cars.

As you can imagine, I spent a great deal of time among the Lightweight 'E-Types. Of particular interest was number 25, (original registration 4 WPD),shown on the left. This fuel injected 'E-Type' went on to win by a large margin, the RAC TT Celebration race which also featured Stirling Moss. I was really surprised to see that this very fast car still had the original steering wheel. One of the mechanics said they liked to keep the car as original as possible! The winning drivers on the Sunday race were Dario Franchetti and Emanuele Pirro. This 'E-Type', previously owned by J. Coombs is now owned by Bernie Carl.

Philip and Julie Porter stop to take a breather with yours truly after saying 'au revoir' to Stirling Moss who had been at the Porter's booth, signing his new 'Scrapbook 1955' co-written with Philip. As Pacific Northwest Representative for both the Porter's 'E-Type' Club and also the International XK Club, it was a brief opportunity for me to update them on local Northwest activities before we got right back to the main event!
