2009 - A fun year and more about to happen......We had an interesting and fun year, doing some travel, seeing old friends and otherwise keeping very busy. We also played more golf, especially here at Sudden Valley. Community activities continue to keep Bruce occupied. Between the Bellingham Angels and the NW Economic Council, he finds plenty to do!
Everyone is getting geared up for the 2010 Winter Olympics
in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. Vancouver is just a ninety minute drive from us and where our son Andrew and his family live. They were able to get tickets long ago to several of the events but we will just watch from our big screen TV and avoid all the border hassles. Quite an exciting time for us all at the beginning of a new year and no doubt lots of first time visitors to our region.

Alaska Cruise

In June we joined our friends of almost fifty years, Bill and Margaret who had traveled from England for a follow up trip after their visit in 2006. We caught up with them in Alaska after they had completed a land tour there so we could all cruise back south together. Patricia and I were pleasantly surprised to discover that Princess Cruises had upgraded us to a full size balcony suite at the stern. It made the whole trip even more wonderful as we all spent time enjoying the spectacular scenery from one of the best vantage points on the ship. Left are Margaret, Patricia and Bill enjoying a pre dinner glass of champagne on the balcony of our suite. As a bonus, even in June the temperatures were warm and the sun shone every day.

Our cruise took us through College Fjord to Glacier Bay on the right, then on to Skagway where we took the scenic White Pass railway tour. Next on to Juneau, the State Capitol and then Ketchikan, where friends Geoff and Sandy took us on a memorable day of sightseeing. Finally we returned to Vancouver, and disembarked at the beautiful new cruise terminal on the left.

Oregon and California Coastal Tour
We continued our travels with Bill and Margaret with a drive down the coast from Bellingham, enjoying the spectacular Oregon Coast scenery as well as the the beautiful California redwood forests. Here on the left is a view just north of Depoe Bay and on the right Patricia and Margaret stand up inside a huge old growth redwood trunk.

Preparing for the Holiday Season
We enjoyed a happy and festive Thanksgiving with some of our special friends and now we prepare for this coming Christmas Season. Patricia's nephew Ian Clark visited us again from England and as usual, we enjoyed his company. We also went to Arizona and visited friends earlier in the year enjoying the sunny warmth.
We seem to have an endless number of parties to attend this year and will spend Christmas Day with Andrew and family in Canada. With continued warfare in the Middle East and a still floundering economy it is difficult to overlook these events without thinking about those less fortunate around us. May they all have better fortune in the coming year.
And for you too, we wish all of you good health, happiness and prosperity in 2010.

Love and best wishes,

Patricia and Bruce
